I've had to use Illustrator a lot in the past few months for my freelance work, but I have yet to use it for any of my artwork. So here is me experimenting with Illustrator's brushes and fill textures. I see a lot of creative potential here, whoot.

Fiesta Malaysia Submission

First and far most, I would like to apologize for my lack of updates in the past few months. Recently I have had drastic changes to my lifestyle (more in my rant blog), so I have been struggling to find a balance between work, games, dancing, art, my second job and immigration shit :)

Anyway, here are some submissions for Fiesta Malaysia 2009, most of them modified versions of my previous work, and some original work. Enjoy!

I Love Kuching City (05/06/2009):

I think I saw someone doing this sign, but can't quite recall. Anyway, I tried my best to model what is supposed to be a K & C, and added some little effects here and there.

Dvirus

DVirus (28/05/2009):

MY VERY FIRST DIGITAL PAINTING PIECE!

Ajis, my younger brother, requested that I tuned his picture. He also specifically asked for this certain style. This is the full version. I made a cropped version cause I know he'll wanna use this as his facebook primary pic :)

"They shootin'... awh made you look!"

Ever since I started vectoring, I've never re-visited digital painting. Well lemme tell you something, it's a lot of hard work! Anyway, the only vectors in this piece would be the floor and shadow. For the splatter textures, I used a preset font. And yes, the splatter was used because the coloring was getting pretty tedious... (so I cheated muahahahaha).

Anyway digital painting seems pretty fun, and I've never had a piece like this before. I might just take it up and step it up a notch! I'll need good stock photos though, any volunteers?

Pockets

Pockets (26/05/09):

Since I got my hands on After Effects and Premiere Pro I haven't had much enthusiasm to go on Photoshop, til yesterday when I saw a cool katana somewhere. And viola!

I've got something in my front pocket... for you.

Credits to Apeng for teaching me how to utilize vignettes. I haven't completely figured it out but I'm sure experimenting will fix that.

Soul Higher Crew - 09 Trailer

Soul Higher Crew - 2009 Trailer (21/05/09):

This, was a lot of hard work. Initially this was supposed to be an experiment of me using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects, but as you all know, I never tread un-wholeheartedly. Really put a lot of effort and time into this, and I must say I'm proud of myself.

Real recognizes real

In After Effects, I used mostly presets from Videocopilot.com (SureTarget) and Trapcode (Particular, 3d Stroke). With Premiere I just played around with cropping and the 'Time' video effects. There was a lot of corellation between the two programs, I constantly found myself switching often to achieve a certain effect. Most images were pre-edited in Adobe Photoshop, and it was a thrill that the other two programs can import raw PSD files with vector and masks intact. All and all, it was a thrilling non-stop 48 hour project.

And now, pengsan :)

Go Green

Go Green (10/05/2009):

A request. I wasn't quite sure what to do with it so I just played around.

It's a mutual gain... mother earth and I

It's pretty jagged since I wasn't too keen on squinting at every pixelated detail on the small stock photo.

A Nice Shirt

A Nice Shirt (09/05/2009):

Lynn told me I had a nice shirt on, so I took a picture and did this. Of course, the shirt had nothing to do with it :)

Here To Collect

Here To Collect (06/05/2009):

Okay this totally didn't turn out into what I was trying to do. Honestly, I was going to work on a gangster-ala-mafia piece, then somehow it ended up like this hahaha oh well ~ and thanks to Ryan for allowing his picture to be used!

I own your soul for... oh lets say, eternity?

So I was applying the layer properties for the skin, the color part automatically goes to red for color overlay right, and viola, it looked okay. So there.

Rhokumaru 09

Rhokumaru 09 (06/05/2009):

I just redid the original piece from 2007. Only when compared can I see how much my technique has changed and improved!

And for each promise broken, we grant thee wings.

This was a lot of hard work, approximately half a day if you stack the hours. However I wanted to do my best so I could really see how far I've come since I started mingling with photoshop. All and all, I had super fun doing this! :D

Support

Support (04/05/2009):

I was playing through one of my favorite games (now in my 70th hour) and was inspired to do this. Plus that retro pop art is a joy to do haha

"...and you were not made to stand alone..."

I used 5-6 stock images and retraced them. Brushes for splatter and star effects.

Ouch

Ouch

Ouch (20/04/2009) :

I saw this cool tutorial on how to produce retro/pop art like effects, so I decided to try it out.

You never forget a stab to the back

The tutorial suggested that I paint the colors. Was interesting though since that was how I did most of my early work before discovering vectors. So I stuck to vectors for the colors, and some filters to add the effects.

I never imagined her with black hair, ever. Or short hair. And never with thick emo eyeliner as well. Piercings do it for me though :)

Dream of dreaming and you'll awaken in a fantasy

Vectors except for the teasing butterflies.

lleq-ileq

Ileq-ileq (13/4/09) :

RDZ requested this for an event in Kuching. It was supposed to display a retro-like theme.

Lepak lah oh

Brushes for the background and layer properties for everything else. Font was 'Stencil'.

Zammay (13/4/09) :

My cousin requested this. Btw, I'm taking in requests right now. Send me a message on facebook ;)

I'm glad to see me too

Yes, that is his face. Aside from the reflection and background shapes, everything else was vectored.

Red Riding from the Hood

Red Riding From The Hood (i)

Red Riding from the Hood (13/4/09) :

Browsing through my collection, I really liked what I did with my second Rhokumaru piece, particularly the jacket. And instead of drawing my signature 6-to-4 armed rhock, I decided to go with something from the bedtime story section... with a twist of course. And no, I will not make her blond.

"...all the better to see you my dear..."

Believe it or not, it's the same babe from Cut & Scar ;) Vectors all over.

Cut & Scar

Cut & Scar (12/04/2009):

No specific reason for this one. I just wanted to sketch up a piece of a certain celebrity. Ended up having the crew's logo on her top, which I though would be nice if we ever decided to print tank tops :P

I am here, in a ghost world...

Aside from the iris and clouds, everything else was vectored. I had fun with the lips in this one :)

F&N Roadshow

F&N Roadshow (10/4/2009):

Final poster design for the event. To those in Kuching, do show up and support you local crew! More info at:

(If the site is not up yet, try again soon!)

F&N logo's were NOWHERE to be found online, so I had to redraw them from scratch. Brushes include the skyline, rising sun, bg decor and can decor. The can was made by playing around with bevel and gradient overlays.

Fresh!

Fresh!

Fresh! (11/4/2009):

(Well I started midnight of the 10th and finished at *looks up* 6am! Fcuk me, I need some sleep). This idea just came to me a few hours ago, after finishing Soulhigher's F&N Roadshow poster. Now in my honest opinion, the soda can turned out wayyyy beyond my expectations, so might as well utilize it in a piece :) And the punch line was supposed to be different, something that went like "... better than water" if you know what I mean, b-boys :P.

Soulhigher datang lagi dengan minuman jus baru... FRESH!

Brushes were used for the can's decorations, other than that vectors all over. Towards the end (when I was getting sleepy, light-headed and trying to make casual small talk), I was just too lazy to draw the freeze. So I knicked it from a previous piece, but not to say it didn't need work, yes sir it did.

Soulhigher: Facebook

Soulhigher : Facebook

Soulhigher: Facebook (10/4/2009):

I was having a chat with Hafiy regarding the new Soulhigher group on facebook that was established earlier that day. And what better way to make our mark on facebook than to corellate both logos into one. I never knew the Eclipse emblem looked nice in blue!

It doesn't matter what you look on the outside, as long as you look good.

I just replaced colors on the layer properties from Soulhigher's trademark orange to facebook's blue. Easy ;)

E.T Farked!

E.T - BMXtreme

E.T Farked (8/4/2009):

I was watching Korea's Expression Crew's 'Wizard' performance. At the end of the routine they mimicked the E.T scene, bicycle flying with E.T in the front basket and a big moon in the background. Too bad that extreme sports weren't such a big thing for Speilberg; oh how that scene could have been so much more... face paced?

As we grow, movies change every time we re-watch them.

I borrowed the moon texture from the original poster, I wasn't keen on spending a whole lot of time figuring out how to produce a moon-like-surface on photoshop. Sparks and grass were brushes, everything else vectored.

Dekat Di hati

Dekat Di hati

Dekat Di hati (7/4/2009):

Designing for MAKE Clothing has greatly helped me improve on my designing skills, though to date some of my pieces I have yet to submit for printing since I am... how shall I put it... unsatisfied with them. So modification is the next step. The above piece WILL be submitted (sabar ah RDZ, I molah kacak2, bok submit) after more modifications that is :)

You are only separated as far as you tell yourself

The face is an original design. I've always loved designing the eyes. There's just something about gazing that appeals to me. Background was a preset brush and I used two separate fonts for my name tag and the title.

Super Bad

Super Bad

Super Bad (23/03/2009) :

No, not the movie. But the original godfather of soul, the pops of funk and the man whose tunes will be played for centuries to come. He is of course James Joseph Brown, Jr. or better known simply as James Brown. I was trying to merge the modern equalizer visualization with a classic funk feel, and what better way.

"Blow me some trane, brother!"

Rhobots

Bots

Rhobots (21/03/2009) :
This was inspired by makeworldwide's introduction page. I might be using this for a new t-shirt design, or maybe a new banner for the blog. We'll see.

See with your senses, not your eyes.

Speeding Sidewalks

Speeding Sidewalks

Speeding Sidewalks (21/03/2009) :
I was working on a different car model actually (seen only by Aniq and Apeng), and might have been 20% done. I gave up, I didn't feel a connection with what I was making. Now this car, haha, I have an attachment to. This will only be for two types of people; those who instantly get it and those who don't (and by the title all should have been revealed). So if the title makes no such sence to you, then you belong to the prior group ;P

Lean, mean, smoking machine!

I won't deny it, this is an unfinished piece, so before I leave it all together I might as well post it up.

Mass Tagging

Batch 1

Batch 1 (17/03/2009):
Honestly, I was never sick of the mass tagging that has been going on in facebook. It's just that once you keep on getting the msn popup message,

"You have an email from facebook" saying,

"... has commented on a picture of you, click here..." it gets kinda annoying, especially after the 124th time. It is an honour to be mentioned and remembered by friends, and surely being tagged in one of those is a good sign of friendship. But I'm sure our friendship means a lot more than that, and thus me untagging myself from such pictures is no big deal kan. KAN.

You are the company you keep :)

I created basic models for all of them and just added distinctive features. More coming soon.

Share The Music

Spread The Music

Share The Music (18/03/2009) :
I wanted to do something with headphones, that was it :) I remember my high school days where friends would share their Walkman's cord headphones to listen to music, unfortunately headphones can't be shared.

You don't have to listen to music to share it.
You don't need to feel love to spread it.

Mun Jak

Mun Jak

Mun Jak (18/03/2009) :
Mun Jak translates to 'If Only'. I was browsing through my poster book and noticed cleverly designed anti-war posters. I was keen on making one of my own.

War brings a lot of unwanted things upon humanity.
If only I had the power to decide how things were to go about.
Unfortunately I don't.

Dirty

Dirty

Dirty (16/03/2009) :
I remember having a conversation discussing premarital sex with a lady acquaintance. She had some issues with coming clean about her sexual history with her current partner.

It's all in the mind.
Are you a tainted person in pure dirt or a pure person in tainted dirt.
You decide what you are.

Armageddon

Armageddon

Armageddon (15/03/2009) :
I've had this idea going in my head for the past year, and started stocking up on photos since. Guess I just needed a personal feel to get me going. The breaker in the picture is my little brother.

Breaking is always about control. Control of movement, expression and emotion.

I replaced the normal fill colors with brush strokes. Combining various brushes adds to the distorted effect.

Great Ocean Road

I went on a trip to the Great Ocean Road with a few friends, and used the pictures as stock.

Great Ocean Road

The Rocks (12/03/2009) : Replacing the natural beauty of the apostles with an urban skyline, blue sea with oil-tainted waters and clear skies with a grid-based horizon. I was also abusing some of my newly acquired brushes.

Salim

Salim (12/03/2009) : Salim is a nickname for the gulls, I tried to express their annoying expression I always get.
